Where might Hepatitis B be a problem for travellers?

The Australian guideline recommends Hepatitis B vaccination for “travel to areas where hepatitis B is endemic.”

Hepatitis B is found in 1% of australians. The definition of “endemic” requires that Hepatitis B occurs in at least 8% of the population. This includes:

  • Most of East and South East Asia
  • Parts of Central Asia
  • Pacific Island Groups
  • Much of South America
  • Sub-Saharan Africa
