YELLOW FEVER.

Found in sub-Saharan African and much of South America.

Where is Yellow fever found?

Yellow Fever is currently found in South America and sub-Saharan Africa. Brazil has seen regular outbreaks since 2016.

There are 3 types of yellow fever outbreak:

  • Jungle Yellow Fever following travel to tropical jungle in Africa or South America. The virus may be passed from a rainforest monkey to mosquito, and then to a person. These cases are therefore isolated.
  • Intermediate Yellow Fever in moist areas of The African Savannah. The virus breeds in tree holes and may spread from monkey to person, and then between people. Multiple people may become infected in this type of outbreak.
  • Urban Yellow Fever occurs, as its name suggests, in busy urban areas where the Aedes Aegypti Mosquito occurs.

You can see that Yellow Fever may therefore be transmitted from an infected person to another person by the mosquito. This explains why some very low-risk countries require you to have a yellow fever vaccination if have recently been to a high-risk country. Aedes Aegypti is found in Australia and we won’t want an outbreak of yellow fever in Australia.
